Award winning film director Desmond Denton and team of Imagenheart comes together to bring Spelonk to life. With the team's success locally as well as internationally being involved with various South African Films such as Mooirivier, Die Pro, Music Videos, Commercials and International Productions such as Resident Evil, Planet Of The Sharks & Black Sails- We are truly excited to showcase South African Films in a whole new way. Unique custom designed hand crafted clothing, weapons, diverse culture, figthing styles- all comes together in one epic story. Set in 2044 this is a gritty Steampunk Action Film, what is not exciting about that!
The film has an incredible line up of South African cast including Greg Kriek, Eric Uys, Abduragman Adams, Scot Cooper, acclaimed fighters and weapon specialist and seasoned crew that brought this story to life.
Spelonk has come a long way- From being selected at the Kyknet Silwerskerm festival for one of the top scripts- which was then further developed by the team into a feature. The script has been selected at as one of the top African films in development with the Berlinale Talents program- presented at Durban Film market under mentorship with Sara Blecher, tested the concept at the London Film Festival, Developed with Euroscript panel, pitched and officially selected to represent South Africa at the New York film festival and is now ready to be fine tuned as a film for market. We have in this process secured our international representative. The team has truly gone out of their way to bring this story to life, from the script, on set elements and currently the intense process of post.
The colour grading of the film is the final touch to the aesthetic image quality of our project. This is to enhance our overall visual style in order to give you, our audience, the best viewing experience possible!
Our sound mix is a big one! Our incredible team is creating and composing the soundtrack for our film. We are working with the incredible Mr Mallum to compose the soundtrack and incredible artists such as Auriol Hays, Afrikaans ruk and many more. Sound Mix & Design is the final stage to create the audible landscape that will consume our characters and audience!
We want to get our film out there! Submitting to festivals all over the world is a huge stage for a completed project and we want to make our film accessible to as many audiences worldwide as possible!
The cost of submitting a film to a top tier international film festival generally ranges between 50 – 80 US dollars. And that’s just to submit the film for consideration. Getting accepted into one of these festivals is extremely difficult. To give you an idea of how competitive it is out there, just look at Sundance Film Festival. Of the 8,700 short film submissions Sundance receives each year, only about 70 of those films are actually accepted to play at the festival. We have over the years won over 16 awards at international festivals and are excited to take spelonk along with our incredible sales agent to these festivals. Your contribution will assist us to package and take our film to these festival and showcase SA in a whole new way. We have a wish list of about 60 festivals we’d love to submit to. Here’s our top twenty:
Berlin International Film Festival ; Cannes International Film Festival ; Sundance Film Festival ; Edinburgh International Film Festival
Toronto International Film Festival ; BFI London Film Festival; International Film Festival; Rotterdam; LA ShortsFest; International Film Festival; Venice International Film Festival; AFI Fest Telluride Film Festival; Raindance Film Festival; Austin Film Festival; Locarno International Film Festival; SXSW Film Festival; Slamdance Tribeca Film Festival; Palm Springs International ShortFest; Aspen ShortsFest Melbourne International Film Festival
Although we've been working hard putting together the basic foundations of VFX into the narrative of our edit, we’re at a stage now where we need to fine tune and deliver the best quality of VFX production in order to make it the most compelling and absorbing it can be!
